HOW IT WORKS

Our Process.

STEP #1 : INITIAL CONSULTATION

We begin with an hour-long meeting to understand your specific circumstances and goals. This allows us to provide tailored advice and outline the legal framework for your family law matter.

STEP #2: LEGAL DOCUMENTS

Next, we draft all necessary documents, focusing on clear and fair terms that reflect everyone’s intentions and New Mexico’s legal requirements. The documents we create for you will depend on your type of case.

STEP #3: FINALIZATION

Once all parties agree to the terms, we finalize the documents and handle the filing process with the court. If your case requires a court appearance to formalize the agreements, we prepare you for court and submit all of the filing documents to the Judge on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Without a doubt, an uncontested or mediated route is the fastest way to open and close your family law case, regardless of whether it is divorce, custody, child support, alimony, guardianship, step-parent adoption, or any of the other issues we handle.

  • Yes, you can! In fact, one of our services is providing legal advice to people going through the process themselves without hiring a lawyer.

Before you sign any legal documents, we recommend you ensure you understand each word in the document you’re signing and know all of your rights and the rights of the other parties in your case.

  • Step 1: Initial Consultation

We begin with an initial consultation to understand your specific circumstances and goals. This allows us to provide tailored advice and outline the legal framework for your family law case.

    Step 2: Document Creation

Next, we draft all necessary documents, focusing on clear and fair terms that reflect both parties' intentions and any legal requirements.

    Step 3: Finalization and Filing

Once all parties agree to the terms, we finalize the documents and handle the filing process with the court. If your case requires a court appearance to finalize the process, we ensure you’re prepared well ahead of the date of the hearing.

  • Each case is different so we can’t give you an estimate without hearing about the details of your case first.

However, we can tell you that choosing to have an uncontested or mediated family law case will almost certainly result in lower fees and faster results.

  • How long your case takes depends on a variety of factors including how quickly you and the other party in your case agree on things, how quickly we receive necessary information from everyone, and statutorily imposed timelines.

  • Maybe.

It depends on what kind of case you have. Some cases, like guardianships and adoptions require court appearances even if everyone agrees on everything.

Many cases, like divorces, custody, and child support cases, don’t require court appearances at all if everyone agrees on everything.

Rest assured that if you do need to go to court, we will prepare you with everything you need to know before you step foot in the courthouse.

  • No. Uncontested cases are great for most people. But if there are significant power imbalances in your relationships, uncontested cases and mediated cases may not be right for you.

  • Aside from lower attorney fees and shorter timelines, one of the biggest benefits we see in uncontested or mediated cases is the amount of control the parties have over the decisions in their case.

In a litigated case, the Judge necessarily makes most of the big decisions. In uncontested or mediated cases, you and the other person make all of the decisions leading to more satisfaction and higher rates of compliance with the resulting orders.
